The Iowa Stored Energy Park Agency (ISEPA) has released significant
news in the plans for the proposed Compressed Air Energy Storage
facility: a suitable geologic formation for development of the project –
which involves using underground storage of compressed air – has been
confirmed.
Dubbed the "Alpha site," the location is confidential until
acquisition of storage rights are obtained. The Alpha site has adequate
size, depth, physical attributes and confining cap rock – all necessary
geologic features to allow development of the project.
Final testing of the site will begin soon. A major announcement will
take place at a meeting to be held at the IAMU Training & Office Complex
in Ankeny December 12. More information will be distributed to each IAMU
member electric utility in the near future.

ISEP will provide a healthy, clean energy source. By storing the
energy generated by wind power, the clean air that we breathe can now be
a clean energy source for our future.
ISEP will help decrease fossil fuel dependency. By storing the
energy from wind we reduce the need for other less environmentally
friendly energy sources.
ISEP will help control household energy costs. By stabilizing
power supplies with the use of stored wind energy, household energy
costs are also stabilized.
