Krista Tanner of Clive began serving as a Board member of the Iowa
Utilities Board April 16, 2007. She was recently appointed by Governor
Chet Culver to fill an unexpired term that runs through April 2009.
Tanner has been a shareholder at Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler, and
Hagen, P.C. since 2006 and has been an associate with that law firm
since 2000. In addition to litigation practice, Tanner has worked in
government, regulatory, and utilities law for the firm.
"Working in utilities law, I have come to appreciate how important
the utilities sector is to Iowa’s economy in addition to the obvious
importance of electricity, gas, and communications to the lives of
Iowans," said Tanner.
"I appreciate the opportunity Governor Culver has given me to use my
experience in service of the public. I look forward to honoring the
trust he has placed in me by working with Chairman John Norris, Board
member Curt Stamp, and the Board’s capable staff to ensure Iowans have
the best choices, the best prices, and the most reliable utility
services available."
Tanner is a 2000 graduate of Drake University Law School, where she
graduated with honors and earned a Certificate in Legislative Practice.
Prior to law school, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the
University of Northern Iowa with a double major in Russian and History.
While completing her Russian major, she studied abroad at Hertzen
University in St. Petersburg, Russia.
As an attorney, Tanner is a member of the American Bar Association,
Iowa State Bar Association, Polk County Bar Association, and Polk County
Women Attorneys. In addition, she has actively participated in the Polk
County Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, both as a volunteer and a board
member. She is also very involved in the community. She was a "Big
Sister" with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Iowa for over six years
and was a member of the 2005-2006 class of the Greater Des Moines
Leadership Institute. Tanner was also named to the Des Moines Business
Record "40 Under 40" class of up-and-coming leaders in Greater Des
