Power Supply Services

Power supply analysis and simple load forecasting
IAMU has prepared power supply analyses for 26 municipal utilities.

Power supply RFQ/RFP
IAMU can assist municipal utilities in selecting a consultant through an RFQ process and in reviewing RFPs for power supply.

Support in securing funding for distributed generation
IAMU commissioned three studies for a municipal wind farm from which the Algona project was selected by the DOE. IAMU has also been instrumental in winning state CDBG funding for wind turbines at Lenox, Wall Lake, and Stuart.

Iowa Energy Project (IEP)
The IEP was a joint effort on behalf of 126 Iowa and Minnesota municipal utilities that conducted various studies on how participants could satisfy future power supply requirements. Studies included an engineering analysis of three coal technologies and three specific Iowa sites, analysis of joint ownership/contracts with MEC, OPPD, and various independent power producers, analysis of CAES, a forward wholesale pricing study, discussions with independent power producers offering opportunities for joint ownership or long-term contracts for output from combined cycle gas and cogeneration facilities, and review of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies as part of a portfolio of programs and technology to meet power supply needs.
